Gregor Franßen, EMLE

Gregor Franßen, EMLE (Madrid) joined FRANSSEN NUSSER as a partner in 2022. He has been practising environmental law since 2002, specialising in waste management and recycling, water management, mining, nuclear energy, municipal services and public procurement.

His clients include medium-sized private and municipal companies, trade associations and government agencies. Gregor Franßen regularly gives specialist lectures, publishes articles and is a member of various expert committees. The ‘JUVE Handbook of Commercial Law Firms’ rates Gregor Franßen as a ‘renowned’ (2020/2021) and ‘highly respected’ lawyer in environmental and planning law and as a ‘highly competent environmental lawyer’ (2017/2018), who is ‘often recommended’ (2020/2021) and ranks among the ‘leading advisors in environmental and planning law (up to 50 years of age)’ (since 2019/2020).

Career and areas of practise

Gregor Franßen studied law at the Free University of Berlin and the University of Cologne. He then took part in the Programme for Law and Economics at the universities of Hamburg, Ghent and Madrid (Complutense) and graduated with distinction in 1999 with a European Master of Law and Economics (EMLE, Madrid).

 He completed his legal training by the end of 2001, including placements in Beijing and Ulan Bator. Gregor Franßen has been admitted to the bar since 2002 and specialises in environmental law. Until the end of 2018, he was a senior partner at a commercial law firm in Essen, and until the end of 2021, he was a senior partner at a commercial law firm in Düsseldorf. He has been a partner at FRANSSEN NUSSER Rechtsanwälte PartGmbB since 2022.

Gregor Franßen advises and litigates in environmental law and environmental economics before administrative, civil and constitutional courts. He provides comprehensive advice to private and municipal companies and associations on all waste management activities and types of facilities. In the field of water management, he supports water associations and municipal companies; in the field of mining law, he advises companies and authorities; in the field of nuclear law, he advises federal and state authorities; and in the field of public procurement law, he primarily advises public contracting authorities. He regularly speaks at relevant specialist and training events, is involved in several trade associations and publishes regularly in commentaries and specialist journals.
